Natural Tree Care... No Chemicals Needed?
Example : I have aphids on my tree... I use a pesticide... I have fewer... But the ladybugs (which eat these aphids) die, so it starts again... I have to treat my tree again. Then, these aphids adapt by mutation to the pesticide used...
Conclusion, I still have aphids, the chemical pesticide has become ineffective and the ladybugs are dead... Not a great result!!! (unless you have shares in Monsanto)
1° Why use natural products?
Did you know:
Natural molecules are called levorotatory (they deflect light to the left). While a synthetic molecule (created by man) is called dextrorotatory (they deflect light to the right). This last type of molecule is not recognized by microorganisms (bacteria, etc.) and is therefore not biodegraded by them ( 1 ) .
* Because they are biodegradable : In fact, natural molecules are easily assimilated by the ecosystem unlike artificial molecules ( See box on the left ).
* Because we use too many chemicals : these chemicals seep into your soil and pollute the water table there. Fresh water only represents 2.8% of all the water on the planet... ( 2 ) . The resource is limited! In addition, if our water tables are polluted...the microorganisms that live there will also die, which will further pollute and reduce biodegradation.
2° What is a natural treatment?
*Today we talk about " Integrated Biological Protection " ( 3 ) . That is to say that we will use natural products (either prepared by man or insects) in order to reduce the number of pests. The goal is therefore no longer a total destruction of these... but rather to manage their number so as not to be invaded. Thus the food chain of the ecosystem is respected. Example: there are still a few aphids, so there are ladybugs, so there are birds, etc.
*We will use auxiliary insects ... insects that will devour the pests we want to fight. Example: ladybug larvae against aphids.
3° Is it more expensive to treat naturally?
*Well, no! You just have to change your habits... You have to learn to think globally! Apprehend your garden as an ecosystem where all living beings are closely linked to each other.
* Example: I have weeds in my yard... I usually spray them with glyphosate (Round up). Today, we know that you just have to pour the cooking water from the potatoes (full of starch) on these weeds to kill them. Or, spray water with diluted table salt. What is the cheapest solution in your opinion?
4. How to fight pests... and where to find all this?
PEST
NATURAL MEANS OF FIGHTING
*Aphids *Ladybug larvae (150 aphids per day), lacewing larvae ...
